The Open Party seeks to improve participation and execution of the democratic system in the UK, with the belief that a diverse political system, with fresh thinking from people outside of politics, will deliver materially improved governance.

Beyond the promotion of democracy, the Open Party does not have its own policy agenda. Candidates can stand on their own agenda, not having to forfeit what they believe in in order to adhere to their party's manifesto.

A primary election is an election that takes place shortly before a general election to determine who the candidates shall be. In the UK, candidates are traditionally selected by the party. Open Party candidates may support or enter a government depending on their political ideology. It is their choice. The objective is a rich political ecosystem from which talented individuals can make significant contributions either in support or opposition. Churchill changed political party - twice!

There are occurrences of independent candidates gathering together, such as the Teals in Australia, but the Open Party is about much more than encouraging independents; it’s objectives are to improve democracy across the board - voter engagement, effective votes, accountability of representatives to voters, free speech, accurate representation, and much more.
