A different type of politics

2-Best-&-Brightest
Talent & experience
Our candidates come from the public, not from the party. This means we can search the whole of society for the best and brightest. The whole pool, not just the 1.5% of the UK who are political party members.
6-Voter-Empowerment
Empowered voters
38% of constituencies haven’t changed party in 50 years. In many constituencies, voting can feel pointless. With the Open Party, every voter gets to direct who their bespoke representative will be by voting in the primary elections.
5-Representation
Accurate representation
Each Open Party MP is chosen by the local public. They therefore reflect the issues and concerns of that area. A different representative for every constituency. No ‘one size fits all’.
3-Freedom-(of-speech)
Honest speech
Open Party MPs are not answerable to the party. They are elected with the approval of their constituents on their own agenda. They are free to criticise and to say exactly what they think on issues. There are no party career ladders to protect.
4-Powerful-MPs
MPs free to speak and vote independently
Traditional party MPs are whipped by their party (instructed how to vote). Open Party MPs are not whipped. Therefore, they can condition their support to government, requiring amendments to legislation or support for their own campaigns. Their vote has real power.
1-Accountability
Accountable to you
Before every general election, all Open Party MPs are challenged for their candidacy in an open primary election. No more safe seats for life. To continue in office they must really perform for the public. Answerable only to you, no-one else.

How the Open Party primary election works

    • Candidate applications

We are open to all. Everyone can stand. We care about your experience, insight and capability.
    • Voters' agenda

YOU set the agenda. Set the questions you need your representative to address. So you really know who you are electing, and they properly understand you.
    • Primary elections

The public choose the Open Party candidates, not the party. All registered electors with the council can take part.
    • Senedd election

The candidates chosen by the local public stand as the Open Party candidates in the statutory election.
