Who is an MS most accountable to ?
Some people rarely hear from their MP or MS outside of election time. The problem is, you’re not the primary boss, their party is. Because the party hold the keys to the seat.
Too often the MP or MS’s performance in the job is not relevant to their re-election. They will lose or keep their seat based on the public view of their party or their leader, not of them. Great MPs can lose their seat when their party falls out of favour and terrible MPs can remain in office for years because their seat is so secure.
Who is an MS most accountable to ?
Accountable to YOU only
Before every general election the Open Party runs a primary election in every seat. If an Open Party MS has been elected, they spend their term knowing that their job is genuinely on the line, even if it is a safe seat. They are motivated to perform for their electorate to the very best of their ability. If they are no good, someone else will replace them at the next primary election.
This is how every other job operates and it should be the same in politics.
